Questions

DOT physical questions

How long does a DOT physical take?

About 20 to 30 minutes per driver. During a group visit we plan for 2 to 3 drivers an hour, so most drivers are back to work fast.

What should drivers bring?

A photo ID, their current medical card if they have one, a list of medications, and glasses or hearing aids if they use them. Drivers with diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea or a heart condition should bring recent records from their treating provider; we will tell you ahead of time exactly what is needed so there are no surprises on exam day.

Why would a driver get a 1-year card instead of 2?

Certain conditions, such as controlled high blood pressure, are certified for a shorter period under FMCSA rules. The driver is still qualified; the card is simply renewed sooner.

Do you report results to FMCSA?

Yes. Every exam is reported to the FMCSA National Registry as required, by midnight of the next calendar day.

Can you do non-CDL physicals too?

Yes. Drivers of vehicles over 10,001 pounds in interstate commerce need a DOT physical even without a CDL. We examine both at the same visit.
